Dear Fellow Quilters:

Each year we select two outreach project and invite our SewFree Quilters to participate.  The Quilts of Valor Foundation is a outreach effort close to my heart and each year SewFree Quilters contribute to our project to cover our service members touched by war with wartime quilts called "Quilts of Valor.

Early in 2012 we will publish a simple block pattern available to all quilters who are registered for the May retreat.  Everyone will be encouraged to make a block or two to bring with you to become part of our SewFree Quilts of Valor efforts.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation is an organization that supports and guides the making and distribution of quilts to our wounded servicemembers.  To date 42, 000 quilts have been distributed.. Check out Quilts of Valor efforts nationwide at QOVF.org.

Quilts of Valor Region 8

Weekend Retreat

Hosted by SewFree Quilt Retreats

As our grassroots efforts to comfort and cover our service men and women with quilts known as “Quilts of Valor” grows, the desire to meet together to sew and to share experiences has grown.   The QOVF Regional Coordinators have planned this weekend of fun, fellowship, and lots of sewing, snug in the mountains of NE Georgia.

What is Quilts of Valor?

In 2003, Catherine Roberts, began the Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF).  Her son’s deployment to Iraq provided the initial inspiration, and her desire to see that returning warriors were welcomed home with the love and gratitude provided the rest.

She hit upon the idea that linking quilters together in a national effort could achieve her goal of cover all returning service men and women touched by war.  These wartime quilts, called Quilts of Valor (QOV), would be a tangible reminder of America’s appreciation and gratitude.  The QOVF has become a national grassroots community service effort, connecting the home-front with our wounded combat warriors and veterans.   Quilts are stitched with love, prayers and healing thoughts; they are a tangible token of admiration that unequivocally says, “Thank you for your service, sacrifice and valor.”   For full details about the Quilts of Valor Foundation visit www.qovf.org.
