Decmeber, 2011

Hi, I've just added more details for Spring 2012.  We had a great October "Gettin' Ready for Christmas with Captain Seamore and our retreaters.  Lots of repeat quilters and lots of work accomplished.

Just a reminder that we will gather in Toccoa in January for a Quilts of Valor retreat.  We have Quilters from TN, FL, NC, SC, and GA already signed up.  Hope you will consider joining us for this worthwhile cause.

If you can't be with us in January and want to contribute contact me at susangordon@sewfree.net and you can make some blocks for our block drive, or make a donation of backing or batting to help complete the quilt tops made over the January 13-15, 2012, weekend.

I've just updated the website for Spring, 2012.  We had a great Spring Retreat and are looking forward to a repeat of the Fall Weekend so many enjoyed last October.  In January, 2012 SewFree will join the Regional Coordinators for The Quilts of Valor Foundation Region 8 to host a QOV weekend sew in.  Details will be on this site in just a few weeks.

Hey Friends:

We're already into November 2010 and we've picked up the pace getting ready for the Spring Retreat.  We are lining up sponsors fast and furiously.  I think you will be pleased.  The end of October was our first SewFree Fall Weekend, and we had a blast.  Check SewFree's Facebook pages for more photos.

We've promised to keep the group small for May 2011 so everyone will have plenty of sewing space.  Our target cut off is 100 quilters.  As of November we already have reservations for 63!  Looking forward to getting back together with everyone in May.

SewFree wishes everyone Happy Holidays and A Wonderful New Year

It's now May, 2010 and we have just had a great time in Toccoa!  We had 71 Quilters together in a beautiful setting, with comfortable accommodations and great meals, sewing, laughing, and playing together.

Check out some of the fun and great times on Facebook.  Just put SewFree in the search column.  I think I'll let our photos speak for themselves.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Toccoa again in May, 2011.

Thanks for a great first year.

Susan

Dear Quilting Friends:                                                                                                        Fall, 2009

SewFree is a creation born of my experiences planning events, and training programs in my former work life.  Now that I am retired, it just seemed like a good idea to put that experience to work with my passion for all things fabric and offer this quilt retreat.  Over the next few months, this will be my "blog' so to speak:  a place to tell you more and more about what we have planned for you in Toccoa next April and to introduce you to some of the people who will be involved in making this a first class event.

My own quilting experience began sometime in my early teens and I have the UFO's to confirm it, but I "fell off the wagon" for many years as I became engrossed in a career and beginning a family.  Cross stitch became the hobby of choice (and I have some UFO's there too).  Now I have found a community of quilters who share my passion and addiction for all things fabric.  If you too have this affliction, join us and together we will form a support group (not to curb our addiction, but to support each other in our endeavors).

On August 14th the steering team met in Toccoa to do some retreat planning.

Back Row:  Peggy James, Carlie Nichols, Leslie Boone, Sherry Kosmetatos, Betsy Podriznik
Front Row;  Susan Gordon, Sarah Sanford, Bonnie Dossey

I am a great supporter of Quilt Guilds.  For several years I quilted in my lonely little room, not knowing that they existed.  Now I belong to three!  I'd join more if there was time..... so I am eager to support guild efforts.  Here's an idea to consider with your guild:

Quilt Guilds:  we'd like you to consider having your guild retreat with us.  We can give you space to sew together, if you'd like to do something special for your members, we can help with that too.  Contact me and let's see what we can work out to make this the best guild retreat yet.

If you have questions or comments, you can reach me at

I hope to see you in Toccoa in May, 2012!
